Part of what makes us love books so fanatically goes far beyond the books themselves; much of what we love is the experience of reading. Some of us have reading rituals or specific items to help set the mood. I love to snuggle on my couch with the world’s softest blanket and a cup of coffee. Or I go to the beach and bring an ice-cold lemonade. I almost always have something (whether it’s food, a drink, something snuggly, or music) to go with reading. I even started a Pinterest board recently to keep track of things that go well with books.
Lately my favorite thing has been my morning coffee smoothie. I’m addicted! I just recently bought a Magic Bullet on my friend’s recommendation, and it is the best thing ever. It’s smaller than traditional blenders, clean up is super easy, and you can drink straight from the cups. Love it!!
The Magic Bullet came with a recipe book, and I noticed a coffee smoothie, so I decided to try it out. Very good. Then I thought, “Hey, let’s add a banana!” Even better! This Morning Coffee Smoothie has become my go-to breakfast and my preferred reading accompaniment. I don’t have air conditioning in my apartment, so even the mornings are warm. So waking up with something cool and refreshing and delicious is perfect.
Here’s the recipe for you. The Magic Bullet recipe book has actual amounts in it, but I’m more of a guesstimator.
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is brew my coffee. Then I put a mug of coffee in the freezer for faster cool-down. Be careful not to leave your coffee in the freezer for too long! I usually leave mine in there for about half an hour. You want it chilled but not frozen. If you have more time, you can always just put it in the fridge for an hour or two.
Add the following ingredients to the blender cup:
- 1 sliced banana
- 1 tbsp (ish—I do a little less) almond butter
- 1/2 tbsp honey
- Generous dollop of almond milk
- ¾ cup of coffee
- Sprinkle of nutmeg
- Sprinkle of cinnamon
- A few ice cubes
Blend until smooth. Transfer to your favorite mug, or leave it in the cup (if you have a Magic Bullet). Enjoy!
